Hello everyone! Here are the 2022 Rough Draft Submission Guidelines! Rough draft submissions will open June 26th and close July 6th. We encourage everyone to keep writing during this process! Summaries will be posted July 8th, for fanworkers to peruse.
Rough draft submission is only for the authors seeking to be paired with a fanworker. If you do not wish to be paired with a fanworker, or have already found a fanworker to work with on your own, you do not need to submit a rough draft! Please contact us to let us know if you’re opting out of receiving a fanwork, or have already found your own fanworker, so we can mark things down on our end!
You can let us know you’re opting out of the submission process via email (thehetbigbang@gmail.com), the HetBigBang Discord Server, or the Page-A Mod Post.
It’s okay if your story is still very rough at this point. We’re just checking for length, which means your story does not need to be completely finished or polished, but around 80% of it needs to be done. This means that an author signed up for the 5k Little Bang must submit at least 4k words, and a 10k Big Bang author must submit at least 8k words. However, we’re willing to be flexible with this! Just contact us to discuss! The most important thing is being able to finish your story on time.
The file that you send to us mods will not be sent to your fanworker. We figure that authors will continue to work on their stories during the submission and claiming process, so authors will be responsible for sending a copy of their work to their fanworker.
Please read this carefully, as this is about the consequences of not being able to finish your story on time.
Any author who is paired with a fanworker through the claiming process that does not post their story by November 30th, the last day to post, will be banned from participation for the next round of HetBang. This is so that fanworkers are not left hanging! There is no penalty for dropping out before rough draft submissions, nor is there a penalty for opting out of receiving a fanwork and being unable to finish. Please make sure you can finish your story if you choose to submit a rough draft and be paired with a fanworker, as it is unfair to the fanworker if you cannot finish. (This works the other way too! It's not fair to an author if the fanworker cannot finish!)
Fanworks are not 100% guaranteed for the Little Bang stories. Fanworks are guaranteed for Big Bang stories! Little Bang summaries will be posted after Big Bang stories have all been claimed.
How to Submit Your Rough Draft:
Email your fic files to thehetbigbang@gmail.com
We can accept the following file types: .doc, .docx, .rtf, and Google Docs. If submitting a Google Doc, share with thehetbigbang@gmail.com with editing capabilities, otherwise we cannot verify the word count. If none of these file types work for you, contact us ASAP on Discord, or send an email to thehetbigbang@gmail.com! Do not send a different file type without first contacting us!
The subject line should say: Username ROUGH DRAFT - and include your Ao3 username that you used during sign-up! (If your username has changed, let us know so we can update things on our end.)
In the body of the email, copy and paste the information below and fill it out, keeping the HTML tags and removing the parentheses and the text inside of the parentheses. Do not type your answers inside of the HTML tags, place your text outside of the HTML tags, or we will ask you to redo it. This is so we can quickly post summaries without having to format everyone's submission! Also, if submitting via Google Docs, you still have to email us with the following information filled out. If you need help with the HTML, please contact us. If it's not done correctly, we will ask you to redo it.

This is how your summary header should look when sent to us, please note where the HTML tags are. If it is not done correctly, we will ask you to redo it.
This will be a blind claiming. Usernames and emails will be removed at the time of posting for fanworker previews. We need usernames and emails on our end for keeping track of authors and stories.
Take your time with your summary! This is what fanworkers are going to use to make a determination in their claims. Make sure to give enough information for potential fanworkers to make decisions, but don't write so much that it is overwhelming. Here's a helpful post for writing summaries! Also keep in mind that this is a summary for attracting a fanworker, so the information you give might be very different from what you would want to give to a potential reader. This summary does not need to be the same one used when posting your story later on!
Make sure to be clear and thorough about trigger warnings so that fanworkers will know what they are signing up for! You must put any and all warnings in this version of your summary, even if you decide to use an "author chooses not to warn" label at posting. Fanworkers need to know what they are signing up for, after all, and we don't want fanworkers, nor authors, unhappy with the match. Please warn for: noncon, dubcon, excessive or graphic violence, underage sex, incest, character death, and anything else that might be potentially problematic for a reader!
Once we receive your submission, we will be sending a confirmation email in return. If you do not get a confirmation email within 24 hours, please get in contact with us at either the HetBang Discord Server or by emailing us at thehetbigbang@gmail.com. If you have any other concerns or questions, please be sure to get in contact with us through any of those means as well!
If you have any questions or concerns, here is the Page-A Mod Post. You can also contact the mods via email, thehetbigbang@gmail.com, or by messaging LuciferxDamien or JesterLady on the HetBang Discord Server.
