Hello again everyone! Rough draft submissions are now closed and summaries will be posted within the next few minutes. We ask that authors check over their summaries once they are posted, to make sure everything is correct. If something does not look right, get in touch with us ASAP, so that we can fix it for you!

Authors that have not submitted a rough draft, and have not already gotten in contact with us, will be automatically switched to the Solo Author path. An email will go out to authors that have been automatically switched to the Solo Author path.

Story claiming will open Saturday, July 9th at 12 Noon PDT.

We will be posting both the 5k Little Bang summaries and the 10k Big Bang summaries at the same time, on separate posts, for fanworkers to peruse. The 5k Little Bang post will only be unlocked after all of the 10k Big Bang stories have been claimed. It is also important to note that only the LiveJournal versions of the summary posts will be unlocked for comments. The DreamWidth versions are for reference only.

Hello everyone! Here are the 2022 Rough Draft Submission Guidelines! Rough draft submissions will open June 26th and close July 6th. We encourage everyone to keep writing during this process! Summaries will be posted July 8th, for fanworkers to peruse.

Rough draft submission is only for the authors seeking to be paired with a fanworker. If you do not wish to be paired with a fanworker, or have already found a fanworker to work with on your own, you do not need to submit a rough draft! Please contact us to let us know if you’re opting out of receiving a fanwork, or have already found your own fanworker, so we can mark things down on our end!

You can let us know you’re opting out of the submission process via email (thehetbigbang@gmail.com), the HetBigBang Discord Server, or the Page-A Mod Post.

It’s okay if your story is still very rough at this point. We’re just checking for length, which means your story does not need to be completely finished or polished, but around 80% of it needs to be done. This means that an author signed up for the 5k Little Bang must submit at least 4k words, and a 10k Big Bang author must submit at least 8k words. However, we’re willing to be flexible with this! Just contact us to discuss! The most important thing is being able to finish your story on time.

The file that you send to us mods will not be sent to your fanworker. We figure that authors will continue to work on their stories during the submission and claiming process, so authors will be responsible for sending a copy of their work to their fanworker.

Please read this carefully, as this is about the consequences of not being able to finish your story on time.

Any author who is paired with a fanworker through the claiming process that does not post their story by November 30th, the last day to post, will be banned from participation for the next round of HetBang. This is so that fanworkers are not left hanging! There is no penalty for dropping out before rough draft submissions, nor is there a penalty for opting out of receiving a fanwork and being unable to finish. Please make sure you can finish your story if you choose to submit a rough draft and be paired with a fanworker, as it is unfair to the fanworker if you cannot finish. (This works the other way too! It's not fair to an author if the fanworker cannot finish!)

Fanworks are not 100% guaranteed for the Little Bang stories. Fanworks are guaranteed for Big Bang stories! Little Bang summaries will be posted after Big Bang stories have all been claimed.

These summaries are what will help a fanworker determine if they want to work with your story! Please read through these do's and don'ts, to help sell your fic! It’s important to know that this is a summary written for a fanworker, not for a reader. You’ll want to include more visual information that will attract a fanworker, versus what you would write to attract a reader. Some of these “don’ts” are fine for attracting a reader, but aren’t as helpful for a fanworker!

Please take your time when writing your summary and ask for help if you need it!

A note on beta-reading: You can choose the level of beta-reading you want, from hardcore story critiquing, to just a second pair of eyes for catching spelling and grammar errors. If you do not want to have your story heavily beta-read, this is fine! But please do get a second person to read through and help catch the spelling and grammar errors.
