Mandatory Check-In! Poll and Email Instructions

PART ONE: This poll portion is MANDATORY FOR ALL AUTHORS. The poll will stay open until August 19th. You need to be a member of this comm to fill out the poll (which you should already be, as per the Big Bang rules.)

If you haven't completed 9k or don't want an artist, the poll is all you need to do and you're done with the check-in.

PART TWO: If you want an artist to claim your story, you need to have completed 9k by the end of August 15th and also send an additional email to bigbang.het@gmail.com with the following:


WHAT YOU NEED TO EMAIL: (please read carefully!)

SUBJECT LINE: [LiveJournal name] [title of the story]

ATTACH: Your current draft of the story, attached in .doc or .txt format (whatever you send should be open and readable!) Please save this attachment as your LiveJournal name and then your title. For example: IRONYROCKS_titleofyourHETBBstoryhere.doc (or .txt, etc.). We don't care how rough the draft is, we just wanna make sure you've written at least 9k of it. The mods will be the only ones to see these attachments.

Summary for artist: (something that will look like the fic summary for the website. Don't worry, this isn't your final summary, but keep it interesting as it will entice the artists/readers!)
Beta(s): (if any, at this point.)

Paste into the body of the email 2-4 scenes that you'd like to see artwork for. (The artists are not obligated to choose one of these, but the scenes are meant to give them a starting point.) Each scene can be up to 1k. This portion is NOT optional if you want an artist. If you can't choose from anything you've written thus far, at least put down a detailed description of the scene so that the artist has something to work with.

Timezone question: if it is August 15th ANYWHERE ON EARTH, you can still send in your email.

Once your story is assigned an artist, you cannot change your fandom/pairing/story. If, however, you do not have an artist assigned to your story for whatever reason, then you can change your fandom/pairing/story uptil submitting your final work on September 25th.

If you don't want an artist assigned to your fic, for whatever reason, or have made arrangements for your own artist, then email the mods as such. Make sure your artists are signed up in our artists section, and just have them clarify that they are already tied to your particular story.

Also, we could always use more artists, as artist claiming will occur on August 20th and our writers vastly outweigh the number of artists currently signed up! Sign up!

Okay, this is odd, but lj not letting me fill out the poll. So here's the run down for my bigbang with little_giddy:
6k-8.9k
(We are) near the beginning
(I have completed 9k) and will send in my email before the 15th is up
(We feel) reasonably optimistic that I will finish this big bang

Now for my solo one (BC I'M NUTSO):

I am flailing like woah over the scenes here. I feel like I am halfway done with my plot (I may be further? I dunno) and I don't have all the interesting scenes in the end written yet and my outline beyond where I have written is extreeeemely skeletal and I'm revising some stuff and what if what I think is interesting is totally not to someone else? *flails like a flailing thing*


So uhm I guess I want to know, how much should I really be stressing over this?

Well, like I told others, once an artist claims your story (happens on the 20th), then they have the option to contact you and work with you, as they see fit. If they want to email back and forth with you, then you can work it out with them. You might wanna mention somewhere in your email that you would be fully willing to have the artist contact you for more/better scenes, if the ones you provide do not get any creative juices flowing.

As far as what you submit, just use your best judgment!

As best as I know, I've got the artist thing squared away; a friend has signed up as an artist and I believe she's still planning to illustrate my story. Do we still need to do the formal artist claim or what, precisely? (It is possible she might not be available, in which case I might need to send you an e-mail with the deets for the artist claims after all.)

Or, okay, I can send you the draft but I have to find a way to pull an excerpt out of it since my laptop died on Saturday and even though I have a backup of the story, all other computers at home don't have a word processor installed. Can I please get an extension of one day so I can find a way to put on excerpt in the e-mail, as well as the actual story file if I don't manage it on the 15th? PLEASE?

I think there is a solution for you... Google Docs.

You can upload your document to google docs open it and copy/paste the parts you want into the email. I'm 99% percent sure you don't have to have a text editor installed in your pc to be able to use google docs. But I think you do need to have a google account (gmail).

Thanks for the hint but I usually use Windows Live SkyDrive when I can't use a locally installed Office version. I just can't use it currently because I'm at work and the file is on my dad's NAS at home and I need to wait for my dad finish using his PC so it just might take a while to get all this done.

AWESOME! Fic has been off to the beta for about a week now, and I'm expecting it back any day now. Then I can do the corrections/edits/rewrite, and I WILL BE DONE BABY! *twirls*

Of course, once that happens, I'll be backing the story up in about fifty different places. Just in case there's an apocalypse or something. ;)
