Writers have their mandatory check in coming up on July 15th. It will remain open until July 17th. (If you are not available during that time, you can drop a note to the post below with the relevant information. But if you are, wait until the official post comes up.)

For those available during the 15th-17th, the check in will be two-part.

Part one: a poll. All writers must participate in this portion, or they will be assumed to have dropped out of the challenge. You will identify (1) whether you are doing a Big Bang (min 25k) or a little Bang fic (min 10k). (2) Fandom/Pairings (3) Current Wordcount. (4) If you are dropping out officially.

There is no minimum word count that you need at this point, for either the Big Bang or the Little Bang.

Part two: an email for Big Bang Writers. If you are attempting a fic greater than 25k, you can choose the Big Bang option and receive an artist who will create artwork for your story. You will therefore need to email the mods at bigbang.het@gmail.com with THREE different snippets of your work, 500-1000 words each, so that your artist may have something to work off of and inspire.

After the mandatory check-in, you cannot change: your selection of participating in the Big Bang or Little Bang (or both, if you're writing two stories), the fandom, or the pairing. That's locked in!

The email format will be:

Author Name: LJ name and AO3 Name
Story Name: if undecided or only tentative, please state that.
Fandom/Pairing: list the main one, and any minor pairings if you so please
Summary to be provided to the Artist: yes, this bit is mandatory. It's fine if it's rough, but please give your artists an idea of what the story is about because claims will be done off this. Maximum 50 words.
Current Word Count and Expected Final Word Count:

Then supply your three snippets. 500-1000 words each, in the body of your email and NOT as a separate word document. You may leave any author's notes or any explanations you want, and you may also leave an email address or a way for your artist to contact you directly. Artist are not obliged to work directly with the author on their artwork, but most usually like author input or feedback of some kind. This entire email that you send to the mods will be directly forwarded to your artist.

To Big Bang or Little Bang: Big Bang stories are under some form of obligation to finish because a artist has signed up to do work for it; so try to complete? Pretty, pretty please? If you don't, we understand, but keep in mind that your artist did all that work. If you decide to drop out at any point, contact BOTH a Mod and your artist immediately and tell them so. But try to complete! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

If you're intimidated by the idea of having an artist or anyone else rely on you completing this venture, there is always the less demanding option: the little big bang. It only has a minimum word count of 10k. No maximum word count. And there is no artists for it, unless you get someone on your own or you create your own artwork for it (either is totally fine). I basically put in this little bang option for those that want to participate, but don't want to be obliged to anyone else to finish. It's completely low-key and non-intimidating! (I hope.)

Artists: will claim stories on July 20th on a post that goes up on this comm. Artist will claim stories on a first come, first serve basis. They are required to make one piece of artwork for each big bang story they claim. The claims posts will display the story title, the fandom/pairings, and summary. We will provide artists with the author name only after they have claimed the story, and we will email the artist the snippets/relevant information as soon as we can. From there, artist can contact authors to find out more about their interests. We would like to encourage artists to be in contact with authors and to share and collaborate, but ONLY in fun. Artists are under no obligation to work directly with the author. Ultimately, what artists create for their artwork is their creation, just like how artists cannot dictate what the author writes for their fanfiction. But we all want everyone to be happy with what they get and what they create, so I hope this remains a happy, fun, friendly experience.

Also, if a writer eventually does not complete his/her Big Bang story by the due date, but the artists has completed their artwork, go ahead and submit it and I'll showcase the artwork on AO3 anyway. Artist deserve recognition for their hard work!

I hope that answers any expected questions or concerns. If not, drop a note.

I think I signed up for this challenge as missvmarigold, I've since changed my username to merryghoul. I'm still checking into this challenge. I wanted to alert a mod that my username's changed--one big bang challenge almost dropped me even though I checked in on time.

I have to drop out because of health issues that will challenge my schedule. Since you have a lot of writers I don't feel that bad about it, even if I do feel sorry for bailing. I might sign up as an artist if I feel better, since art takes way less time :)

How should I handle warnings for content for my story at this point? Do they need to be included the summary to be used on the claims post? I wasn't planning on sharing anything warning-worthy for the snippets, but I don't want someone to grab my big bang if it could be upsetting or triggering for them!

I'm kinda glad that there are no minimum wordcount for this mandatory checkpoint, as I'm not sure I would have been able to make it. But at least, I'm pretty sure I'm going to finish both my fics, as I'm done with work tomorrow.

Anyway, heeeeee!!! I'm so excited!

Will the summary we give be posted publicly?? Because I hate to give away what the whole premise is though I would want the artist to know so they have an understanding of what is actually happening. Or is there a smaller summary for public and then a larger one in our e-mail?

Before I start writing up all my info I was just wondering is it okay to have two main pairings? Mine kinda revolves around two, or should I push one to the background for the sake of writing out the info?

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but you said Part 1 of the check-in is a poll. Where is the poll? Or am I supposed to send you an email like Part 2?
