I need help with choosing the font for the Het_BigBang website. Since you guys are going to be the ones reading big giant stories on the website, then I figure you'd might like a say. There will only be one-skin, as your mod's little helper only has limited options in design. The layout will be a simple black text on a white background. Fanfiction.net uses a default "Verdana" size 14 font. A03 uses "Lucida Grande" size 14, but unfortunately that font is not an option for our website to use. And livejournal's default settings are "Verdana" size 13 font. Therefore, I've narrowed it all down to three options for font and size each: Verdana, Courier New, and Ariel, in size 13, 14, and 15 font.

Your options in reading are as follows:

1.) Verdana, size 13, color black:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, mauris sollicitudin justo amet, vivamus purus placerat molestie dolor suscipit, volutpat mauris a faucibus sit et, neque elementum enim, torquent posuere auctor maecenas eu lectus. Morbi magnis in.

Morbi magnis in. Nisl iaculis, donec mattis non, lacinia eget arcu neque lacinia elit duis, est in varius velit lorem amet eget. Ut non sit nec mauris dui. Ipsum neque, augue urna neque.

3.) Verdana, size 15, color black:

As a web developer, I'd thought I throw out there that standards for readable text on the web is generally either Verdana 10 or Arial 12 :)

Sweet *g*

(Though standards change with tastes, just like any other fashion; Times New Roman 12 is still pretty popular too ;))

As a random web designer, I more often tend to use Trebuchet MS or Arial in 10 (depending on the site; mildly visually impaired here, and I find those two are much easier to read). Just my $0.02.

Arial is also okay. I find Courier New the hardest to read.

Will it be possible to add the option to download fics (as is possible on AO3)? I vastly prefer reading long fics on my ereader.

Oh, I was thinking a possibility of downloading from the website? But if that's too much work I totally understand--this is a huge project already, I was just throwing it out there! It would be very cool if there could be a collection or something like that on AO3. I'd volunteer to help with that but I'm still finding my way around uploading/adding my own stuff! I guess I can just hope that all the people whose fics I want to read will get them up on AO3...

On AO3 only the author of a fic can upload it or add it to a collection. In that sense the logistics of creating a collection are relatively simple--you just make a collection (a quick process) and tell everyone what it is. Then the individual authors upload their fics and add them to the collection, if they want to. Since everyone is responsible for their own story, the technical burden on the collection's creator is really small.

I have another question: I overlooked the detail that the stories are going to be hosted on an external web site. I'm not familiar with Weebly--will the site offer us the ability to edit or remove our stories in the future if we want or need to?

I just saw someone ask about downloading similar to AO3, and the idea to have a collection there too. I'm not sure how much work it would take, but I'm open to checking it out and finding out just how much work it would take to get it set up and sorted, and, depending on that, I might be able to do that, as a back up/alternate for our site.

I'd be willing to help out on this if needed.

Another one voting for some kind of downloading option - it would be much easier to read all this if it were made available for download to read on an e-reader - then you wouldn't have to worry about font size all that much either, as most e-readers can customise that further...
