Okay, this is all information that has been up in our FAQ since the very beginning of the challenge, but just once more with feeling.

Art and Fics Due - August 26th, 11:59 PM (Midnight) PST (here is a timezone converter.)

DON'T PANIC. YOU CAN DO THIS. REMEMBER TO BREATHE.

The Big Bang will go live on the Debut Date: August 31st, noon PST.

Why the delay between Arts/Fic submission and the Debut Date? Because, as last year can attest, we had a few delays with artwork, and some of the stories submitted were not properly formatted. Therefore, we need time to find back up artists and to properly code fics. Since authors are now in charge of coding/finalizing their own work, I suspect it won’t be a delaying issue, but it is very, very important that if you sign up as an artist and claim a story, you submit ON TIME because otherwise the entire big bang may be delayed.

On that note, we have still two fics not yet claimed by artists.

46. Story Name: Breaking Point (tentative title)

Fandom/Pairing: Taggart, Jackie Reid/Robbie Ross
Summary to be provided to the Artist: Normally it's bad enough investigating a brutal attack, but when the victim is Matt Burke and his life is still hanging in the balance, it's even worse. With things already strained, the case pushes Jackie and Robbie, and their friendship, towards breaking point and beyond. (Some descriptions of violence.)
Current Word Count and Expected Final Word Count: current: 8 000 expected: 30 000

49. Story Name: Months Gone By
Fandom/Pairing: The Walking Dead, Daryl/Andrea (minors are Glenn and Maggie, true to canon; Michonne and T-Dog, AU/AR)
Summary to be provided to the Artist: Following the Governor's horrific attack on the prison, Daryl and Andrea become separated before Andrea has a chance to inform Daryl of their child-to-be. As they wander the Eastern Seaboard with their respective groups in their quest for safer shores, they never give up on finding each other.
Current Word Count and Expected Final Word Count: Current: 7,430 Expected 25,000 (dear God, help me!) :p
Author's Notes: Admins/mods, beta reviewer, and artist may contact me directly. Note that this fic does include AU/AR elements with some spoilers from the comics.

We are using AO3 collections for all authors and artists, with the reveal date of August 31st. You can post your fics/artwork anywhere else you like, just don’t post them up anywhere before the Debut Date. Again, there is plenty of time for those that do not have accounts on A03 to sign up. You can check out this post on the comm requesting invite codes, ask a friend for an invite code, or you can request from A03 here or at [livejournal.com profile] ao3_invitecodes. If you are unfamiliar with it, here is the FAQ of AO3. Do not publish your fic/artwork for everyone to see at AO3. Instead, submit it for our 2012 collection. Only the author/artist of a work can add it to a collection, and then the mods approve it and we’ll reveal it on the Debut Date.

A03 will require you to format a header with all regular information on it. Remember to properly tag your works, including appropriate warnings.

Both HTML and Rich Text are supported on A03, and you can edit/delete, have multiple chapters, etc…

1. The Rich Text Editor lets you add formatting, links and pictures to text without using HTML tags. It also has an option for pasting from Word which will preserve some of your Word formatting, although please note that this is buggy. The Rich Text Editor is only available for your work text.

2. The HTML editor allows you to change the look of your text with HTML tags. It can be used in any place you can submit text, although some fields permit only a small subsection of allowed tags. You can see a full list of the allowed HTML on the Archive FAQ, but the standard HTML tags is as follows: b, big, blockquote, br, caption, center, datetime, div, dl, dt, em, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, height, hr, href, i, img, ins, small, span, src, strike, strong, sub, sup, table, u, and more.

Also, last year, [livejournal.com profile] anr was a saint and provided you with a post that explained "how to format a fic for posting in less than 30 seconds no matter the story length or amount of formatting" trick.

For Artists: AO3 video embeds are working from Youtube, Vimeo, blip.tv, Dailymotion, Viddler, Metacafe and 4shared. Images use the img HTML coding. You can upload your images at Tinypic or photobucket for images or .gif files. And if you have questions on how to format anything else, please see the AO3 FAQs, or ask one of your mods to help you out.

The mods won’t be overly picky about formatting. I'd prefer for all dividers and scene breaks to use <*hr> (remove the *) which creates a horizontal line that serves perfectly as a scene break. However, that’s optional. You choose your own way to format.

Other optional suggestions, just for uniformity sake's:
How do I do Chapter Titles: Bold 'em.
How do I timestamp and do locations: Italizice the dates and locations.
How do I do subtitle stuff: Italicize it.

There is only one major fail regarding format, and that has to do with paragraphs breaks. There must be a full line break between paragraphs.

Example of doing it wrong:

Chapter One: The Invasion
March 6, 2005 - The City of Atlantis
Elizabeth ducked quickly behind a console and attempted to catch her breath. A flush of pink colored her cheeks and a thin sheen of sweat had appeared on her brow. If the situation weren't so dire, John would have been turned on. As it was, however, he couldn't give it much thought as he had to focus on the batch of Ancient zombies that were slowly staggering in through the Stargate.
"At least they can't run," he offered lamely.
Elizabeth spared him a glare. "Why can't they run?"
"I don't know." John shrugged. "But they never seem to run. They always lurch. Maybe when they're brought back to life they don't get knees?"

Example of doing it right:
Chapter Two: Ancient Ex-Girlfriends
Yes, They're Zombies Too

Elizabeth peeked around the consol. "Oh, my god," she breathed. "Is that--"

"Chaya?!" John squeaked.

"Talk about creepy ex-girlfriends." Rodney scrunched his nose. "She doesn't look good in green."

John cringed and crouched down lower. "Do you think she's their leader?"

Elizabeth looked thoughtful. "Well, this may be better for us." She narrowed her eyes at John. "We can give them you in trade for a cease fire--" Something caught her attention behind John and she broke off. "No, wait. Look to the left! That's... oh, god, John. That's Teer!"

John and Rodney stared in disbelief. "Damn you, Kirk!" Rodney groused, and hit John upside the head. "We're going to be killed by a legion of your dead ex-girlfriends!"

"Okay, everybody calm down," John soothed. "Let's not overreact and go blaming--"

"Hey, look, your ex-wife!"

"What?!!"

Grammar and Spelling fail: If your fic doesn't look beta'ed, I will call you on it, which will create an AWKWARD situation for both of us. Having a beta is a REQUIREMENT. Grammar, spelling, proper paragraph structure, etc… these are all REQUIREMENTS. You need to give your beta ample opportunity to go over your fic for mistakes and edits, so remember to factor that into your deadline. Don't have a beta? Check out this post!

Well if this isn't a nice, swift quick in the behind to let me know that I should have probably been finishing my little bang instead of writing a whole other one, I don't know what is.

And I mean that in a nice way! Thanks for the reminder.

*inhales, breathes...PASSES OUT* I'm so freaking out, but I keep telling myself I can do this, I have time, if I can write 50k words in a month (which I only managed once, but whatever), then I can definitely do this. Also, quick question that I keep forgetting to ask, does it matter that my beta doesn't have an LJ account or anything like that? She is rather prominent on youtube though!

How are we meant to post art? Should it be within the related fanfiction, or should we post it separately?

So... we're going to post it as a story, placing the art where you usually post the writing?

I browsed the faq you posted, tried to find something on ao3 and I googled, but I couldn't find anything useful on how to upload artwork to AO3. I was gonna add a random fanart just to know how it worked, and under the "post new" thing it only seems to be fields for writing and fic. Do you know where I could find some guidance :(?

It does, thank you so much!

I know I was late with the poll and then practically begged to be allowed to be a part of this Big Bang/Little Bang thing - but - *sigh* Yeah. Writer's block moved in and is holding on with a firm grip. I guess I have to drop out as I won't be submitting anything unless I get a reprieve from the muse at the last minute allowing me to finish the fic. Sorry!

And I don't know if you were thinking of having someone post a couple stories a day to the comm like you did last year, but if you are, I'm willing to take on that task again if you need me to.

Thanks again for another round of the best Big Bang stories out there!!!

Oh, I'm sorry! I was working on a little bang fic, so no need to contact an artist!!

Wow, sorry I couldn't respond to this before now, but on the upside, I did have a great vacation! I'll be more than happy to take over the task of posting random stories and can start today, if you'd like. Any preferences as to how you want them posted (i.e. a big bang and a little bang per post, or all big bangs first, or vice versa)?

Thanks again for another fantastic year of het big bang stories!!!

ETA: I've been trying to figure it out and I've tried just about everything. Any help on how to code the AO3 icons would be greatly appreciated!

I was supposed to do today, but I am in bed with strep throat, so I haven't even seen my computer. If you could start today, that would be huge. As for format, etc, just use whatever you think is best unless/until IR returns to this thread and slaps me upside the head. (She is mean to sick people.)

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/traycer_/
Oh no! Strep can be a nasty mother and I hope you'll feel better soon!

I think I'll just go the absolute random route with an occasional random art work thrown in until told otherwise. I just wish I knew how to code the AO3 icons!

Thanks!! I just wanted everything to be consistent, you know? Not just because they're so pretty. Really!

I do appreciate the help!

Hi,
So I managed to post a few other works on AO3 and they finally seemed to get the bugs out of all the major formatting issues I was having **crosses fingers** and I found the spot where you add it to the collection. I am assuming it is the one marked Het Big/Little Bang Challenge 2012. But will this post it right now?? I tried to use the "set a different publication date" tab and mark it Aug. 31,2012 but it says you can't have a publication date in the future!!!??

Just checking because my story has grown into this huge monster (108,000 words and still nowhere near the end aauugghh!) and I know it will take me DAYS to actually get this all on AO3 since I need to cut and paste over 20 chapters. I can't possibly do it all at once. Does adding it to the Het Big Bang Challenge keep it from being posted until that date?

So if you can clarify that, I would appreciate it, thanks.

I just tried it with the first chapter and it posted it. I even logged out and checked to see and it was there so I had to go back in and delete. Is there something I'm missing? not doing right? or just don't understand?

I can leave it as a draft but AO3 only holds drafts for one week and then they delete them. Suggestions?

Date: 2012-08-09 12:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] karasel.livejournal.com
Yes I did, twice, exactly like you said. But when each time it actually posted to AO3 (and I checked that it was posted to the public by logging out and then going back) I immediately deleted it so people wouldn't start reading it.

Still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is there something else I need to check off. There is nothing that says "unreveal" or "post later" or "don't post to public". Very confused.

for artists, how do we indicate when posting to the collection which story the art is for? i know once it's live we can link them together, but in the meantime should we just put in the notes which story/writer we've made something for?

I would like to know this as well. Is it gifted? Inspired by? Tagged as CoverArt? Titled thing for blah written by grrr? This is my first AO3 for a fest. Well actually by the time this rolls around it will be the 4th, 5th, and 6th, but I would like to submit it before I leave.

Aaa... I would take on those fics for art, but I know *nothing* about either fandom, and I just won't have the time (between my not-finished-fic, art for four other fics and beta-ing another *flails*). Sorry!

I'll take The Walking Dead story for art. I've only watched season 1 up to this point (season 2 is sitting patiently on my computer), but I know the characters enough to do some art for the author.
